Wheeler Wildlife Refuge

Wheeler Wildlife Refuge is a multiple tract refuge in north Alabama with the headquarters and visitor center in Decatur. That's where we went in the rain today (we drove the car). They have a very nice little observation building that overlooks a marshy area, tall grass and cornfields. It's teeming with Herons, Egrets, Cranes, Ducks, Geese and other birds and local wildlife.....and hawks! The last series of hawk photos is of "Hawkeye", a rescued Red Tail who had been struck by car, injured and can no longer fly. She is a permanent resident at the visitor center.
