Every day is a winding road

Well, not quite every day but every chance we get...

We had a veteran's funeral in Chattanooga (see "A veteran was buried today"). We really didn't want to come home and struggle to find something on TV NOT MJ related.....so after the funeral we headed north.....to the Dragon. It was a gorgeous and there were lots of bikes on the road. About 2 hours after leaving Chattanooga we hit the first curve....ahhhhh.....let the fun begin....it didn't last long. A few curves later we passed a Harley rider giving the slow down signal, it's usually an indicator of a large truck coming through. Rounding a curve we heard a sound that gave us a sick feeling.....a siren. We pulled off and waited....seconds later we saw the bus trying to go faster than the 30 speed limit.....it didn't look good.....2-3 curves after that we were waved down and saw that traffic was at a complete stop.....that sick feeling was realized......we found out that a woman rider had gone over the side of the mountain and was in the bus we had pulled over for....they were taking her to the helipad at the north end to be airlifted to the ER. We hope and pray she is OK. After traffic started to move we passed through the scene, I thanked a responder for the job they do, remembering the ones who helped us in Feb after our bike went down. The rest of the ride was a little bit of a traffic jam, with some drivers not using the new paved pulloffs to let other traffic by. Lunch was at Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort....TJ had a chicken salad sandwich (which was pretty good) and I had a HUGE chili dog. We also saw a bike just like ours, same year, same color and everything. I bought me a little stuffed dragon and we headed home. At the scene of the accident was a wrecker trying to get the bike back up the mountain, all of the rest of the emergency personnel had left. Teh northbound run was mostly uneventful....with the exception of 1 idiot sportbike rider....he was going too fast around a curve and come out a little wide and came over the yellow lines just a little bit in front of us. We stopped at Benton's Country Hams outside of Madisonville, TN on US411....got some hickory smoked country bacon and 2 center slices of smoked country ham.....guess what's for breakfast! It was a pretty good day, we got to see some good friends we haven't seen in a while, run our favorite road and stay away from the TV and the media clusterfuck of the MJ memorial service. We honored a REAL hero.
